Following Works on Paper, 21LUDLOW is hitting the warmest New York days in years with the presentation of PAINTINGS. Featuring the work by Gray Edgerton, Timothy Mearini, Charles Martin, Eddie Ochoa, Jason Shelowitz, Fedele Spadafore and Nicole Wilson and ranging in styles from new realism to groovy fantasies on canvas, their work will be on view July 9^th - August 2^nd.

Moreover, the show will include a selection of handprinted T-shirts and posters by Clinton van Gemert a.k.a Head Hood as well as a taste of highlights from Works on Paper.

Benjamin Edmiston in Beautiful Decay

Ben Edmiston, an artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY and a participant of our first show, Works on Paper was just featured on Beautiful Decay, a publication I absolutely admire for their awesome taste and interest in aspects of both high and low brow culture. Congratulations!

We had the great pleasure of exhibiting prints by Benjamin during our Works on Paper show, some of which will continue to be on show through our Paintings Exhibition.

An artist working in a wide variety of media, Benjamin also opened a solo show of his paintings recently at the Infantree Gallery.

Really awesome work and great news for a very talented artist!

Yura Osborn

Yura Osborn is a Japanese artist living in New York and a recent graduate of the School of Visual Arts here in New York City. Her work often features a repetition of some sort which she relates to the act of meditation and as a link to her own roots. Her work is ambiguous and warm...it's hard not to smile when looking at them as if you were both in on some shared secret!

Anyone living in New York can probably relate to the grind and rapid pace of it. Yura's work offers you some time for you to relax and breath and perhaps even smile a bit. :)

Alejandro Chen Li

Born in Mexico, raised in Brooklyn, NY, Alejandro Chen Li is an emerging artist whose work has the same subversive wit and graphic attitude recognized in "street-art".

On average, about twenty layers of color are silkscreened over one another to create a retinal delight where the eye moves from one area of thick color to the next.

Alejandro, 23, lives and works in New York. Cartoons of the early 90's, (mighty Max, ninja turtles, Tiny Toons, etc...), nature, graffiti and decaying urban landscapes are cited as influences. The four prints included in this show are part of an ongoing series following two main characters on a quest for some unknown objective.

Stacey Rozich

Wild, Imaginative and Flush with color, Stacey Rozich's subjects carry a sense of nostalgia that give you the sense that they are far wiser and older than us, but still related to us non-the-less. Her delightful and at times bizarre art recalls a hazy, child-like creation; they can invoke wild curiosity yet maintain an almost menacing shadow of strangeness and mystery.

Influence from folklore, traditional costume and graphic novel are are all present in Stacey's work. Many of the textures and patterns from her work are inspired by traditional Slavic garb, which Stacey connects to through her own Yugoslavic heritage. Working and growing up in Seattle, Washington, I also consider the influence/imagery of Pacific Native American pattern, inspiring a deeper connection with history and ancestry.

Stacey Rozich is a 22 year old artist currently living and working in Seattle, Washington. She has studied at California College of the Arts in San Francisco and is currently studying Graphic Design at Seattle Central.

NEW YORK – 21LUDLOW is not just another art gallery in the vibrant Lower East Side. It is a space where art can reach the vastest audience possible, not limited by snobbery and astronomical prices. A place where you can come in, enjoy art, dance a little and buy a marvelous piece at the price of a nice sweater. It is a place where you can rethink your attitude towards what seeing and buying art should be.

The concept of 21LUDLOW merges all that is great about New York culture life – cutting-edge art, great music, Lower East Side and strobelights. The space does not cater to the caste of proffesional gallery-goers, but aims at those who are interested in arts, but uninterested in the posh fancy that surrounds it. 21LUDLOW opens with the those who love art, but not necessarily money, in mind. Seeing art should be pleasure and fun, devoid of the uneasiness of elitism. One shouldn’t feel incompetent to enter a gallery, because everybody is competent. In 21LUDLOW we show and sell art with no pretense and everybody is welcomed.

The exciting summer life of 21LUDLOW commences on JUNE 18TH 2010 with the opening of our first show, Works on Paper. The show presents an array of playful works varying in styles, but coherent in the overall message – art should be imaginative, fun and affordable.

The exhibit includes talked-about artists from around the country including Stacey Rozich (based in Seattle, WA), exhibiting her work for the first time in New York and Christian Herr of Lancaster, PA.
